Shooting Tears

CCI11072008_00000.jpg
Do I shout or do I whisper when I try to speak to them ahead? Them ahead, only slightly, ahead of me.

Our hearts die slivered, don't they?

Good old feller, brave enough to show me his dying Salton Sea as well as his secret spring in the desert. A good old fellow indeed. Sweeter than the coffee the Devil drinks, so I'm told. So much less so, I've only scraps of paper and this emptiness to offer.

I know you can hear me and I know you'll understand when I say that I'd rather shoot the tears off a pretty woman's face than mop a bar-room floor with any fool who'd slight you where I could hear. Yet both are so sadly true.

Never shook your hand, nitwit, but I'd damned sure counted on it. That chunk of me you took with you? Take good care of it. I'll be needing it back. I 'spect I'll be gettiing pussy by the boatload until we slap backs next, and I intend to rub it in. Every once in a while I'll do the porking in your behest.

As will I cry.

Good man, good friend, good man: we'll catch up down the road a piece. Wish I had words as beautiful as yours, but I don't.

I loved you. See you down the road a piece, where it's always New Year's Day and the drinks are free and God's own wild man is coverinng your ass.

Down the road a piece, dude. Down the road.

I watched the sun go to bed over Borrego Springs last night, and thought, "I would have walked across the Badlands for that man."

Thinking of a graceful heron that rises crane-like into the sky.
Belly full and resplendent.
In the silent sun down, the day timers quieten, the night timers rise.

My respects to a good man and those who knew him better and longer than I did.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

Well said friends. Well written Guy Neal. I'm still in a sorta coma here but I can finally laugh again. That man made me laugh more that should be legal. I'm a little pissed off at him for leaving me without a Zog to taunt, be taunted by and call up and ask if he saw the latest "Family Guy" episode. He used to call me and ask, "What are ya doin? Stuff?"

I wish I was as eloquent as you guys.
All I keep thinking is, "Dammit, Bill. Goddammit."
The toll that some people pay to be themselves is way too high.

i only just found out that zog is no longer at his keyboard
and for someone whose friendship had not yet extended to the physical realm i am so saddened at his fucking off without even so much as a goodbye. his tender observations and words of encouragement and genuine warmth that beamed through cyberspace.
we always said we'd get together and jam next time i was down his way....

can we get together?
i can offer my land to meet up and party on.
up in Little Sycamore Canyon above ventura county line
no physical structure but we could swap stories and play music break bread and raise a glass to him
i'm in california from the 9th to the 24th.......
what say all of you?
