Spice Bench Test

DAY ONE

Boakes and myself bought a small 400mg packet of Spice Gold for 5.50 from one of the most revered Tobacconists in Brighton. Last week the BBC got hold of this story and now the Government is trying to ban the sale of Spice in this country, something that has quietly been on sale in Brighton headshops for the last fives years.

There was obviously no surprise when we heard of the plans to make Spice Illegal, as it seems the only drug our country wants to keep legal is alcohol. You know; highly addictive, can cause wet brain, occurrence of death if abruptly stopped, has an acute negative effect on mental health and turns your liver into an inert in-operable piece of granite over a very painful period until it kills you.

We decided to test Spice for the following, myself being voted (by myself) as test pilot, the right stuff :

A, Does it work?
B. What are the effects?
C,Safety Issues.
D,Is there a hangover?
E,What happens if I use it regularly and stop abruptly?
F, Are there any withdrawal symptoms?
G,Tolerance.
H,Risk Assessment.

Boakes and myself ploughed our way through the first mix of Spice and tobacco, we both agreed that we were feeling different, I think if you are looking for a cannabis effect you might miss the effect of Spice which very is subtly different when mixed with tobacco.

Our minds will try and name everything we see, feel etc, It's a bit like this, it's a bit like that etc. However Boakes and myself both felt quite different and positive, not heavy and stoned like a strong hash or skunk spliff and had quite an enjoyable exited creative time together.

Evening Test Spice Diamond 22.50 (3 Grams)

Tonight I went a step further and put some of the Spice Diamond in a pipe, the first one definitely gave me a kick, closely followed by a second has made me feel very stoned, I'm even getting the munchies. Interesting that I am not craving for tobacco at present. I have a small piece of hash in my pot and I don't want to have that as it might clash with the wonderful feeling Spice has given me. That good at the mo, tonight I set out to break it, take it to it's limits and see how much it would take to get to the stage where you don't want anymore for a while. Well it's taken two medium sized pipes full! I am very impressed and it's good to feel as though I'm not doing anything illegal. Ten out of Ten.

After more than three hours I can quite honestly sat that this herbal mixture is as good as, if not better than Cannabis, much softer, gentler, not a hint of paranoia and I have still only had two pipes worth. I think I might have finished the last pipe over ninety minutes ago so this stuff has got legs too.

I feel very relaxed, there is no heart banging, or Whitey feel to Spice, a little dryness of the mouth perhaps.

As I went for my water I had no impairment of balance or wooziness, in fact I was a much more aware than if I had been smoking Cannabis. It is most not debilitating but I feel I have the option to mong out and relax if I want to, yes, one has the choice.

I'm now going for another pipe and listen to some music to see if audio is enhanced.

(As an observation, earlier I noticed after two good pipes there is definitely a trip element as the effect builds after the last pipe is finished, it's a creeper. I noticed the mantelpiece looked slightly different, a little like a momentary mushroom effect, nothing scary though, sort of wow.)

Audio is enhanced with Spice as well as taste, spent a good part of the evening listening to music, writing, I even played the guitar. Got to sleep about five feeling relaxed after smoking in total about a gram .

I really don't think that Spice works well with tobacco, not the effects but for me the two tastes don't belong together, Spice is at it's best when smoked in a pipe. I have smoked only six roll ups today, as though I haven't had so much need for nicotine which for me these days is a bonus.

DAY TWO

I awoke feeling positive, a little bleary but nothing out of the ordinary, in fact quite relaxed, non anxious and looking forward to seeing a friend for lunch. After a few coffee's I was fully functional within an hour of waking.

Spice in the two days I've been testing it, has taken away any unhealthy thinking, e.g. Negative projection, hence docking worry. This has brought my anxiety levels down, a positive effect, again today I've used about a quarter of the tobacco.

Tolerance has not increased noticeably, for me it has a weird natural brake in it's make up which says that'll do for now. As an addict this is quite unusual because the natural thing to do if you find anything that quickly fulfills your reward system,
brinkspice2.jpg
is to repeat the process until it's gone. This, so far has not proved to have incited that part of my addictive nature, a most unusual position for me to be in.

I still have a small amount of cannabis left in my pot which I have no desire to smoke, it feels dirty, treacly as I imagine smoking it.

Something is turning around in me, have I come across a way of helping giving up nicotine? Is there a quality in this herbal mix that somehow negates the addictive personality taking over. I feel cleaner smoking a few pipes of this at night, it's not heavy but very satisfying, a little trippy, fun, no major highs or rushes but almost instantly of anxiolotic quality.

DAY THREE

I walk on guilded splinters, Dr John, wow what a geezer. Got up at 8.00 after about two hours sleep last night after a surprise visit from my son. It was great to have Hen knocking about in the morning, we had some tea together and I walked him to the bus stop, one of the best mornings in Brighton for years, the temperature, the sun. the sea. I saw Hen on the bus and went for a coffee in the lanes at Carlucchio's which reminded me of an old holiday camp atmosphere. The sun streaming through the windows through candy coloured blinds, yellows, oranges, tans and tangerines, happy staff and atmosphere. I went from there and had a look round the shops, can't really say why but I ended up in Costa's for a second recharge.

I felt good this morning, detached from the norm, I could sit in the cafe's and observe rather than feel I was being observed, today I was in charge.

I came home about eleven un packed the shopping and fell asleep until 6.30, I woke up in the dusk or dawn light, what day is it?, have I slept through a whole day and it's Monday morning? As I lay there I realised it didn't matter so relaxed was I really must stop taking these calls for granted, they are friends trying to communicate with me, who like me, who love me. I still have a fair bit of reconditioning to do before I value myself enough to believe that people actually want to talk to me.

The Spice Diamond is still more appealing to me than Cannabis, what a find and it is making me cut down on the nicotine without trying?! Good stuff and no hangovers or thick monged out head in the morning even if you've tried to cane it. I say try because there is something within this mixture of herbs that takes away the need to cane it.

Full report to follow.

This was interesting enough to me tomake some telephone calls to various experts for more information. First, to my son, for a Peter Arnett war-correspondent's report much like Dug's. Jordan agreed with virtually everything Duggy reported except that he didn't observe any effect on his (heavy) tobacco consumption,. He also suggested that Dugs try blending a small amount of the Diamond blend with a smaller-than-usual amount of weed -- and he highly recommended the results. Also, because of the possibility of having to piss clean at work, he gave that a whirl two ways: first, with the Mom-and-Pop-checking-up-on-junior over the counter kit, and then he delivered an unaltered sample of his own urine to a straightforward lab. The results? He tested clean. Hadn't smoked any weed in six weeks or so beforehand. Next, a couple of calls to Reynolds Tobacco, where my wife has worked since the day after she graduated from university in 1982. Reynolds owns British American Tobacco and I know folkjs in the legal departments of both companies but no one was very eager to tell me much. As for legality, one shyster was willing to at least say that the product hasn't been faced with any Federal legal claim for two principal reasons: the manufacturers of Spice have voluntarily avoided any direct U.S. sales and oversight of the product is currently vague, as is the matter of regulating tobacco. The question being, will both or either be regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms or the Federal Drug Administration?

Me, I'm a sucker for ATF. What a great name for an agency!

Guy, thank Jordon for the tip, I will at some point try that lil cocktail. News is that Spice have stopped importing to the UK due to the fuss we make over here, however there are other alternative mix's and I have been studying the herbs n weeds that go to make the smoking mixtures. It's a whole new world, I suppose being British we have booze tipped down out throats from birth. My Grandfather always dipped my dummy in whiskey, bless him, we'd try and get the parrot pissed at Christmas, get the cat squiffy etc.

Also being British we think there is only one culture - ours - which is based on drinking, punch ups, general violence all gloriously fuelled with booze. Even the Romans were disgusted with us because we didn't water the wine down they introduced us to.

Look what we have missed on our staggers to and from the pub, forests and undergrowths full of psychotropic delights, anxiolotics, uppers, downers you name it, it's all hiding in the undergrowth. Over the next few weeks I will as an excercise obtain the necessary components and try to make my own blend.

ATF should be a chain store, not a federal agency.
