last time i met this geezer was in a 'battle of the bands' competition where we competed with each other in gravesend kent, I was sixteen, he was then 'Wild' Billy Childish. Nice work and glad he's still putting it out.

Oh definately, he came from the 'other side' of the River Medway, Chatham I believe. Lots of rivalry between the London side of Kent and Medway bands, shit they gave us a hard time. The Gravesend bands were mainly playing off that Dr Feelgood, Thames Delta vibe, it was the crossover time when we were at last moving away from the over indulgent progressive scene to the first seeds of Punk in the UK, about 1975. Wild Billy and the boys were years ahead of us and covered numbers like Hippy Hippy Shake, a nicely out of control rendition I remember. We were a tight little power R n B four piece, probably the tightest band I've ever been in, at seventeen it's easy to rehearse three times a week and play three Wed, Fri and Sat'dy Barfly gigs. Six days of music, rock n roll, playing very loud, punch ups and lots of beer. Anyway back to Billy, they blew us off the stage in the final, we beat em, but they deserved the reward. I think a band called Saxon won, wonder what happened to them.........?
