Electric Endicott
Over thirty years ago, some strange guy was busily putting together a magnum opus in tiny Endicott, New York. Ever hear of it? Neither did I. until I heard about the legend of Gary Wilson. Hollywood vampires like Toto, The Doobie Brothers, and Kenny Loggins were sucking the blood out of FM radio airwaves. Meanwhile,
a genius and his band were hammering out some amazing songs that until recently were lost for years.
Gary Wilson has become a familiar name in the outsider music movement along with other artists like The Shaggs, Daniel Johnston, and Jandek. Gary Wilson first came onto the scene in 1977 with You Think You Really Know Me, which he recorded (semi) alone in his parents basement. Using synthesizers and spinning disturbing tales of obsession with different women, Wilsons record had no effect on mainstream music back then,

but his lunatic obsessions along with some amazing musicianship, scored big with college radio. Full tilt with his band of blind dates.
One reviewer had this to say about Gary Wilson: For those not yet familiar with the twisted genius that is Gary Wilson, it sounds something like this: Mix equal parts Zappa, ? & the Mysterians, Barry White, Steely Dan,

Norman Bates, and 70s porn/TV soundtracks; filter through an alienated, small town adolescence and creepy borderline-stalker fantasies; add one large bag of white flour, a gallon of lukewarm milk, liberal amounts of Saran Wrap, and dirty underpants; stir in a reel of 1/4" analog recording tape, dump on basement floor, and let sit overnight. Enjoy!
Gary was a cult phenomenon until a small record label hunted him down and did documentary movie was made about him a few years ago. Check him out on You Tube.
New album coming out in September: Electric Endicott". The new Gary Wilson album (CD and Vinyl) coming soon from Western Vinyl.
