DIESEL THE WACKY RAVEN
Diesel and Mrs. Diesel live across the road from my So Cal desert gas station. His job, besides raiding my trash cans, is to keep the crazy Raven in the gas pump from infringing on his territory. Needless to say it is a never ending battle.

you had to ask and being an amateur desert birder..lessee...ravens populate the interior remote regions (like here) crows stick more to the coast, cities and farmland. ravens are usually a good 6" taller with larger wingspans and body weight. crows "caww" while ravens make all kinds of clicking noises as well as mimicking other birds and chimps ( i swear). they live a lot longer too...about 20 years longer. oh...and crows have smaller beaks and curved tails. ravens have thick beaks and triangle shaped tails. i'll bet youre sorry you asked davo. now whats the difference between a fiddle and a violin?

actually, that is exactly the kind of answer i hoped for...my house is often surrounded by the little buggers, mocking me as i move through the yard....chasing the ocassional eagle and gull....letting the damn woodpeckers alone though....caw caw caw .....cant help you with the fiddle/violin....it would seem the difference there may be the player.

alright dan!!! a closet birder. i think we folk in the southeastern corner of california have phoenix and tucson to thank for making it a simple hop across the colorado for these whacky birds. the first time i heard their "ratchet" call i was hooked. then two of them fell out of a tree locked in a death grip at the old ghost ranch inn on miracle mile and knocked over our highballs.
how cool is that?
they are considered "invasive" and "obnoxious" nowadays here in borrego springs...but i dig em. tho they make fun of me. dont think they were around when william was alive or im sure he would have used a boat tail...
